AI YOUTH COUNCIL

AI YOUTH COUNCIL

Welcome to our Artificial Intelligence (AI) Youth Council!

AI is already being used in health and care, but young people are rarely asked what they think about it – that’s what the AI Youth Council is here to change.

What is an AI Youth Council?

The AI Youth Council is a group of children and young people (ages 9–21) who come together to talk about how AI is used in health and care, and how they think it should be used in the future.

This is not a research group where adults make all the decisions – instead, young people lead the way.

If you take part in the AI Youth Council, you’ll help to:

  • choose which AI topics we talk about
  • ask big questions about fairness, safety, and trust
  • share your ideas directly with doctors, professionals, researchers, and decision-makers

Your voice matters – and it helps shape real decisions.

Why do we need an AI Youth Council?

AI can help us to solve real world problems including – diagnosing illness, plan treatments, and talk to patients. But it can also make mistakes, be confusing, or feel unfair if it’s not designed properly.

We think it’s important to involve young people in AI discussions because:

  • Children and young people are patients too
  • Children and young people use technology every day
  • Children and young people notice things that adults miss
  • AI works best when people are involved

Who is running the AI Youth Council?

The AI Youth Council is being organised by:

  • University of Birmingham
  • University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust
  • Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust
  • Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children DRIVE
  • NIHR HealthTech Research Centre in Paediatrics and Child Health

And is supported by:

  • CERSI AI
  • Incubator for AI & Digital Healthcare
