Yorkshire Health & Life Sciences Business Breakfast
Friday 22 November 2024
NIHR HRC in Paediatrics and Child Health were delighted to exhibit at the Yorkshire Health & Life Sciences Business Breakfast that took place in Leeds earlier this month.
The UK Government set out a 10-year strategy Life Sciences vision for the sector to solve some of the biggest healthcare problems of our generation. With West Yorkshire having been selected as the UK’s third investment zone, the North has some of the biggest potential in growth in manufacturing and plans to double the health and life sciences sector by 2030.
The business breakfast took place on Wednesday 20th November and invited representatives from industry, academia, the NHS and local authorities from across the region for a morning of engaging discussions about how we can encourage collaboration and accelerate the development and adoption of health innovation.
NIHR HRC in Paediatrics and Child Health Senior Project Manager, Dr Gemma Wheeler, joined this fantastic event:
“It has been inspiring to learn from the leading experts and innovators in the region, and their enthusiasm for the potential of MedTech in this area has been infectious! The networking sessions were filled with energy after these brilliant panel discussions, and it was great to connect with new groups with a shared passion for improving child health and healthcare.”
Alongside two of our network partners, the NIHR HRC in Long-Term Conditions (based in Sheffield), and the NIHR HRC in Accelerated Surgical Care (based in Leeds), it was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the offering of the HRC network, and how it can support innovation on a local and national scale.
As well as exploring pathways to support innovation across Yorkshire, the event also highlighted key issues within the sector, the importance of sustainable working for a greener future, and a pipeline of relevant skills for the growth of all areas of the life sciences industry.
Thank you to the event sponsors, Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber, Nexus, YHEC, Health Innovation Partnership, Health Innovation Leeds, and University of Huddersfield for making this brilliant morning possible.
