Child Health Technology Conference 2025: Early Career Researcher Award for Best Abstract

Wednesday 30 July 2025

We are delighted to share that the winner of the Child Health Technology Conference 2025 Early Career Researcher Award for Best Abstract Presentation goes to Ursula Ankeny at Lab4Living, Sheffield Hallam University.

The 4th Child Health Technology (CHT) Conference held online earlier this year brought together a global network of clinicians, academics, industry partners, charities, governance experts, and importantly, young people and families, to share the latest research and innovation in child health technology.

This year, the CHT2025 organising committee received a record number of abstract submissions and was tasked with the challenge of selecting presenters from the fantastic collection of entries. We invited 16 wonderful researchers to disseminate their impactful work through an oral presentation and were delighted to see the delegates enjoy the exciting and diverse subject areas explored. From the use of artificial intelligence in paediatric radiology, to empowering young people by creating a digital storybook for young people with rare disease, there was no shortage in the variety of topics.

Each year we strive to ensure that Early Career Researchers (ECRs) are a big part of the conference and have the opportunity to connect with the child health technology community. The CHT2025 organising committee evaluated all abstracts submitted by ECRs and we are pleased to announce that Ursula Ankeny, a Design Researcher at Lab4Living, Sheffield Hallam University, has been awarded the Early Career Researcher Award for Best Abstract Presentation. Ursula’s engaging presentation, “Early findings from an ongoing feasibility study exploring impacts of co-designed devices for children and young people (CYP) with JIA” was presented with confidence and style and offered a valuable insight into the importance of co-design when developing health technology for young people. Congratulations, Ursula!

Thank you to the organisation that sponsored CHT2025: Merck Healthcare, NIHR Research Delivery Network, NIHR HealthTech Research Centre Network, and Medipex. We’d also like to thank Event Management Direct, Technative, and Marketing Sheffield for all the the support they provided for the conference.
