RESEARCH THEME

CHILD HEALTH AI NETWORK

The Need

There is currently no established infrastructure to integrate artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) into the NHS environment, despite it having extensive potential benefit for both patients and clinical teams.

Recent NHS and government commissioned reviews have therefore identified the need for NHS Trusts to develop capacity in the NHS to utilise data to drive decision-making and to create platforms/resources to utilise AI/ML.

Theme Focus

The Child Health AI Network (CHAIN) theme will support and drive AI/ML solutions at four levels:

  1. Project management, including working across the other four research themes to identify opportunities for AI /ML development.
  2. AI/ML testbed development, based at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).
  3. Creating infrastructure, including analytics for clinical and operational projects as well as the development of standardised reporting/dashboards.
  4. Patient and public involvement and engagement, including the recently established digital healthcare inequalities steering group at GOSH.

This theme cuts across our other four research themes to ensure that AI/ML is supported and developed across our whole portfolio of projects.
